SolarUK: Frequent Questions and Answers

Can you give me some advice on how to choose a solar hot water system?

Our Answer

Compare all systems and their prices before taking any grants into account, and ask for an estimate when first getting in touch.

You should certainly expect to spend a few thousand pounds on your system, though Government and local authority grants, if available, can be used to bring costs down.

We recommend comparing all systems and their prices before factoring in any grants. Make sure you are talking to at least three suppliers - including us, of course.

Ask for an estimate of what it will cost to install a standard system before even giving your address. Any legitimate solar installer will be only too happy to talk prices before sending out a technician to give an accurate quotation. There are some companies that refuse to give any sort of price before sending someone out.
