SolarUK's solar thermal panels on display in Lewes this weekend
East Sussex homeowners interested in the potential of clean energy microgeneration will be heading for Lewes Energy Saving House Weekend, Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th June.
Anyone thinking seriously about having a solar energy system installed in their home, or who is curious about other renewable energy technologies and the whole range of energy saving measures, will be able to visit houses in and around Lewes to learn about what can be done to make a home more energy efficient and economical to run. Residents who have already been down the road of reducing their household’s energy consumption and impact on the environment will be on hand to chat about the various options, costs, challenges and benefits.
East Sussex’s county town has some attractive streets to wander around (for anyone who doesn’t mind the occasional steep incline), with no shortage of atmospheric pubs and eateries, so even those from further afield could come and make an enjoyable weekend of it.
This free event is organised by Transition Town Lewes with the support of Lewes District Council (which has signed up to the 10:10 campaign, working towards a 10% reduction in carbon emissions).
Among the renewable energy systems on display will be solar thermal collectors designed and installed by Sussex company SolarUK, solar photovoltaics, and wood-burning stoves. As energy saving measures are the logical partners of any green energy installation, there will be a chance to find out about energy monitors, draughtproofing, underfloor insulation and more.
At Hollow House, Landport Road, which is open from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 20th, visitors will see SolarUK-installed solar thermal and solar PV panels.
With environmentally-friendly building materials and home composting systems also featuring, few visitors will return to their own homes on the Sunday evening without having been inspired to take a step or two towards lower-impact living.
